Live it up the Lord's way!

Yesterday was stake conference for us here in Manti. I was so inspired by it all that I thought that I would share some of the high points with you. A lot was said on President Hinckley and his legacy. "Keep doing what you are doing just do it better." "Each of us can be a little better. We have work to do, so very much of it. Let us role up our sleeve and get at it. "
Brother and Sister Osguthorpe were presiding at the conference and each of them spoke. Sister Osguthorpe's main message was "Living it up the Lord's way." Putting our heart and soul into life and the Lord. We receive many blessings by doing hard things. We can do it. Go forward with faith! Brother Osguthorpe taught us that we become enemies to God when we; (Mosiah 3:19)

1. When we have self doubt. We say " why try?" The saint say's "I can do it. Doubt not ..."
2. When we have Self Indulgence. We say "Why not?" The saint say's "I can take control."
3. When we have self absorption. We say "Why me?" The saint say's "forget yourself and go to work."(Serve)

He also told us how President Hinckley has said "Our greatest need is to increase our faith." In ourselves, in one another and in the Lord. He related a story of President Hinckley's that I don't want to forget. It was one where he was in the mission field as a young missionary in England. There was a book published at that time that was circulating and was telling falsehoods about the church. President Hinckley was called by his Mission President to go into the publisher and ask him to stop publication. President Hinckley said to himself. " Why me, who am I to do this task? You would hold more authority and experience to do this work." Well he, prayed and sought the Lords help in this task after he accepted the challenge. He went into the office of the publisher and told the secretary that he had come 5000 miles to see this man and could he please see him. She said she would see and later came out with no hope. President Hinckley sat himself down and would not leave until this man would see him. When he was lead in his office the old man with a cigar in his mouth, challenged his presence and asked what he needed from him. President Hinckley stated his reasons for being there and asked the man to stop publication of this book and that it was spreading falsehoods about his religion. The Publisher was touched by the fervency of the young Elder and did as he was asked. This publisher was so impressed with this young Elder that he sent Christmas cards to him every year there after until his death. I believe that this experience was an eye opener for Pres. Hinckley. From this time forth he and the Lord conquered many obsticles that the church faced. He had faith in the Lord and in himself. To be such an instrument in the Lords hands is what I want for myself. His example has left footprints in my mind and heart that will help me to be this same way. I am so thankful for him, and those righteous leaders who our Father in Heaven has placed in our lives to be example of him.

Wow, thank you, Bridget. I love stake conference and was so sorry to miss it. Last night Natalie was trying to tell me the 3 things that you listed but couldn't remember one. I am grateful to have it shared here and appreciate your testimony. Thanks again

Bridget, I really enjoyed your comments on stake conference. It was one of the best, wasn't it! I had a hard time all the way through. I was so teary eyed about President Hinckley' death anyway. He was so special to me. We're going to miss him, but what a wonderful time we will have with President Monson at the helm. By the way, I hope you don't mind my posting to your site. I found it through Lauri's. I have a blog, too. My address is kjarbear.blogspot.com just in case you're interested . . .
